Station 2: Vision + Guiding Values

Guiding Values

Explore the guiding principles below and share how your input.
  • Well-Being

We foster a community where residents and visitors have access to essential services, safe neighborhoods, and opportunities to participate in civic life. We listen to residents and proactively respond to evolving needs, technologies, and demographics. We support access to health, education, and economic opportunities while creating welcoming public spaces, gathering places, cultural experiences, and local events that bring people together and support healthy, active community life.

  • Vibrant Arts and Culture

We promote a dynamic and vibrant community through diverse arts and cultural experiences that enrich community life. Arts and culture contribute to vibrant public spaces and strengthen Walnut Creek’s role as a regional destination. The Downtown is supported by a thriving network of arts organizations, venues, galleries, and cultural programs throughout the community.

  • Mobility Options

We advance a safe, connected, and accessible mobility network that supports convenient and comfortable travel for all users. The City supports diverse transportation options for people who walk, bike, roll, use transit, rely on shared mobility, or travel by car. We improve pedestrian safety, reduce barriers to mobility, and enhance connections throughout the community through thoughtful planning, innovation, and sustainable transportation choices.

  • Accessible Housing Opportunities

We support the evolving housing needs of the community by providing a diverse range of housing options and programs for people of all ages, incomes, abilities, and household types. New housing is thoughtfully integrated to complement neighborhoods, expand housing choices, and support a connected community.

  • Parks, OpenSpace, and Natural Landscapes

We encourage healthy, connected, and sustainable communities by ensuring parks and open spaces remain welcoming, accessible, and well-maintained. Through long-term conservation and responsible stewardship, we protect natural resources, biodiversity, and scenic landscapes while promoting environmental sustainability and community resilience. Our parks, open spaces, and natural areas provide meaningful places to gather, play, reflect, explore, and connect with nature.

  • Economic Vitality

We strengthen long-term economic and fiscal sustainability through a resilient, innovative, and diverse economy that supports local businesses. We provide opportunities for residents to access jobs, goods, services, and experiences close to home. We support a dynamic Downtown as a regional destination while also strengthening Walnut Creek’s diverse economic base, including its automotive, medical and healthcare, technology, tourism, retail, and professional services sectors.

  • Safety and Resiliency

We strengthen the community’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies, hazards, and changing conditions. We promote community preparedness and support resilient infrastructure and public facilities. The City provides responsive and reliable police services and partners with regional agencies to deliver essential public services, including fire protection and emergency response.
